Power Yoga Master Class with Bryan Kest

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012 from 6-9pm in the Sun Room

The Rama Lotus Yoga Centre is thrilled to welcome Internationally reknowned teacher, Bryan Kest back to Ottawa!  He rocked Rama Lotus in 2010 and we can't wait for him to do it again! Bryan has only a few visits scheduled to Canada in 2012 - this is a unique opportunity to join Bryan for his original 3 hour Power Yoga Master Class (45-60 minute lecture with 2-2 1/4 hour asana practice). A well-rounded flowing asana practice that integrates mental practices for developing a calm, less reactive state of mind. In a Power Yoga class, you are encouraged to focus on the process and not the end result; this allows all levels of yoga practitioners to participate, enjoy, and reap the benefits.

The workshop style class will be a strong, well rounded, yet simple physical practice that leaves every nook and cranny in our bodies vibrating with vitality while challenging our minds in the sense of strengthening the qualities of mind that are most useful, positive and powerful, while eradicating the qualities of our mind that are harmful and stress inducing. It will strengthen qualities such as calmness, patience, focus, gentleness, gratitude, humility and acceptance, while weakening qualities such as judgment, competitiveness, distraction, reaction, and criticism.

If you feed qualities of mind, they will grow big and strong, and if you don't feed them, they will weaken and die. Now since our physical practice is such a fertile environment for most all of these qualities to arise, our physical practice becomes an opportunity to strengthen the qualities we want to be strong and to weaken and eradicate the qualities we find harmful. If you want to know how Bryan does this, you will have to come and see because words cannot replicate the experience that is a culmination of almost 30 years of his own yoga practice called Power Yoga.

About Bryan Kest

Born in 1964, Bryan Kest has been practicing yoga for more than 30 years. He initially studied in Hawaii with David Williams, the first person to bring Ashtanga yoga to America. He then studied in India with K. Pattabhi Jois, the main proponent of Ashtanga yoga. Kest has been teaching yoga for 27 years. "My primary objective", says Kest, "besides turning more and more people on to a healthier, more peaceful lifestyle that continually challenges them to grow, is to teach a system of exercise that fully integrates the body, mind, and spirit".

The new trend towards yoga is not surprising, given that the body is limited and the mind is limitless.
